WHAT IS OZEMPIC?

Ozempic, developed by pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk Inc., is prescribed to manage type 2 diabetes. This branded medication contains semaglutide as its active ingredient, a synthetic form of the hormone glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). Acting as an incretin mimetic, Ozempic aids in regulating blood sugar levels by promoting insulin production when necessary and reducing glucose production by the liver.

OZEMPIC AND WEIGHT LOSS

You may have come across discussions regarding the use of Ozempic for weight loss and may be curious about its effectiveness in this regard. While Ozempic is not approved as a weight loss treatment, its active component, semaglutide, has been found to assist in appetite regulation. By helping you feel fuller for extended periods and curbing cravings, semaglutide can complement a balanced diet and regular exercise routine, contributing to successful weight management.

IS WEGOVY THE SAME AS OZEMPIC?

Ozempic and Wegovy share many similarities. Both medications contain semaglutide and are administered via injection. However, they differ in their primary purposes. Wegovy underwent research and trials as a weight-loss drug, while Ozempic was investigated for its efficacy in treating diabetes. While Ozempic remains primarily prescribed for type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease management, Wegovy is specifically formulated for chronic weight management and is exclusively prescribed as a weight loss medication. Additionally, Wegovy is available in higher doses, with a maximum dose of 2.4mg compared to 1.0mg for Ozempic.
